Matchless

GPR

from berndhep, 1 Comments, 592 Views

This Matchless GPR is my main clean amp in my big recording rack. This is what I would call the best clean soundin the world. Very "Vox" like with a lot of bite. The amp is really versatile with it`s 2 channels. You can go from ultra clean to cruch and rock type tones. There`s actually a lot of gain in this beast. It`s sad that they don`t build them anymore... but good for my investment ;-)

What the manufacturer says...

Total Access to the Encyclopedia of TONE.

Digital disbelievers scoffed at the very idea of packing five 12AX7's and 25 years of tube tone heritage into one rack space of pure magic...but there they are...five little tone bottles, glowing quietly-all too ready to rock the house.

Eight separate modes deliver the elusive creamy gain of the Mark I, the heralded focus of the Mark IIC+, the scooped Rhythm of the Mark IV, and the heinous crunch of the Rectifier. But these are just a few of the classic sounds at your fingertips.

Most programmable preamps start with a digital control circuit and then adapt the audio to fit the confines of the digital framework. We weren't about to compromise the audio just to take the short cut. Instead, our three years of research produced a new patented technology which preserves in every nuance and detail the exact audio elements which made these classic sounds in the first place. The digital circuitry was forced to serve-not dictate the tone.

Each control's up and down keys work much like an old style knob...all parameters are displayed and active all the time. To you, that means no scrolling to find your Treble on the gig. You don't have to wonder how your Bass and Mid are set, you can see them from across the stage.

You can store your favorite sounds into 90 user presets and these can be mapped to any of the 128 midi program locations. To get you started, we've included 20 defeatable/ retrievable factory presets, 10 of which can demonstrate

SmartPower™ voicing options where TriAxis controls our power amps, switching their capabilities to further enhance individual modes and sounds. Make no mistake-TRIAXIS IS an arsenal of the most powerful guitar tones available in the world today...and that's without using the Continuous Control function. But don't believe us, just listen to the likes of John Petrucci, Rocky George,Reeves Gabrels, Adrian Belew, and James Hetfield.

Features...

• 5x12AX7
• 8 Modes
• 90 User Preset Locations/128 Midi Program Locations
• Midi In/Out/Thru • Midi Continuous Control (any or all parameters)
• Midi Data Transfer
• Phantom Power (for Footcontroller)
• Programmable FX Loop w/Stereo Returns
• 4 Programmable Function Switches (Controls Smart Power™ "Deep, Half Drive or Modern" on select MESA Power amps or controls other outboard gear)
• Stereo Main & Recording Outputs
• 1 Rack Space

Channels...

• Rhythm - Green = Vintage Fat Rhythm (Mark I, Black-face)
• Rhythm - Yellow = Modern hyper-clean Rhythm (Mark IV)
• Lead 1 - Green = Vintage Mark I Lead
• Lead 1 - Yellow = High Gain British Style Lead
• Lead 1 - Red = British Shred-Style Lead
• Lead 2 - Green = Medium Gain Boogie Lead
• Lead 2 - Yellow = Classic Boogie Lead (Mark IIC+/Mark IV)
• Lead 2 - Red = Searing Boogie Lead

What I think of it...

A superb preamp. Very versatile and easy to use, with all settings permanently on display on bright LEDs, unlike the Marshall JMP1, where the particular parameter value has to be scrolled to. High gain sounds, particularly on Lead 1 and 2 red, get a little noisy, but then we're talking extreme gain.

I haven't found any sounds I can't get out of it yet, though you have to be unafraid to use the full range of the controls to get them.

Care needs to be taken when revalving, as the board which holds the valve bases can snap and break the connections; remove the top first.

Mine is fitted with a set of little-used Mullard ECC83s.

Old-school rack preamp. Don't use it all that much, but it's great for kind of raunchy distortion. I've heard good things about modded ones.

Egnater M4 Preamp

from BERNIE, 0 Comments, 672 Views

Older Eganter M4 with a Twin Vox, Marshall Super Lead 2 and Hi Gain Module.
In conjunction with the EL 34 Advance power amp a good combi to keep up with the real vintage tones.I use it when I record in other studios than my own.... less cartage.......

But I got to admit that the preamp just can't keep up with the heads and the Hi Gain originals. The heads are still superior especially in the GAIN MODEAS!

DRP-1

from Joao Neto, 0 Comments, 131 Views

http://www.amptone.com/marshalldrp1.htm

The Marshall Direct Recording Pre-Amp
is in essence a complete Marshall stack in
miniature, despite it’s compact size the
DRP-1 uses micro electronic techniques to
emulate the tone and feel of a typical
Marshall pre-amp, power amp and
loudspeaker cabinet. This allows the
recording and reproducing of great guitar
sounds with the minimum of fuss and
without the need to set-up and mic your
normal guitar amp rig.
The benefits of the DRP-1 can be utilised
beyond the realms of the home studio.
For instance the built-in stereo headphone
amplifier can be coupled to your favourite
effects processor to give your personal
practice routines the realism of your stage
sound. Alternatively, use the DRP-1 plugged
into the front end of your normal guitar amp
to fully ‘Marshallize’ it.
Another use of the DRP-1 is to go direct
into the PA from the emulated line-out. This
is especially handy for rehearsal, where
instead of transporting your main system
along, you can turn up with the DRP-1 and
just plug in and play.
In addition to the guitar uses, the Direct
Recording Pre-Amp can be used to add
warmth and another dimension to keyboards,
especially when mixed with the original
sound.

V-Twin

from carlwithaK, 1 Comments, 327 Views

two channel preamp, each with three voices. can also mix the two channels simultaneously. The solo channel has crunch, lead, and blues; the clean channel has scooped, bright, and fat.

Has separate switches to turn each channel on and off, and each channel has a switch to set its voice. Comes supplied with a two button foot switch which can be used to turn on either or both channels. It also has an optional external channel select unit with six inputs that allow any voice in each channel to be selected (can select one in each channel at the same time).

The fx loop is also foot switchable, or can be set to be used with only one channel, and has a mix level.
